5th Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
We had a good week getting ready to learn more about World War II and historical fiction by way of the novel, Number The Stars and the movie The Book Thief shortly before the Lunar New Year break started. The students will soon be drafting their own historical fiction which is something I am very much looking forward to.
We are now approaching the end of February. March will be upon us soon, bringing with it both our International Expo and our Spring Break. Sadly, all of the fun that the coming weeks hold will most certainly bring us closer to the end of our Grade 5 year than we might have imagined at first. I will continue to encourage the students to write daily in their journals to capture the excitement from the perspective of the person who they are right at this very moment in time.
What we learned This week
Maths: Topic 12 – Perimeter and Area
Literacy: Historical Fiction – Katie’s Trunk. Historical Fiction Writing.
Science: Chapter 3 – Ecosystems
Social Studies: Chapter 9 The Great Depression Chapter Wrap Up.
What we will learn Next week
Maths: Topic 12 – Perimeter and Area
Literacy: Historical Fiction – Elena (Historical Fiction Short Story)/Historical Fiction Writing.
Science: Chapter 3 – Ecosystems
